Anderson Power™, a global leader in high-performance interconnect solutions, expands its popular Saf-D-Grid® Connector Series with the launch of the new Saf-D-Grid Max. Engineered for growing data center power outputs, Saf-D-Grid Max provides industry-leading performance with UL-rated support for up to 55 amps.

“With Saf-D-Grid Max, we’re expanding the options for power density in high-amperage appliance connectors,” said David Beach, Market Segment Manager at Anderson Power. “The Max supports up to 55 amps and 600 volts to deliver the performance and flexibility that design engineers demand as electrical needs expand.”

Powering Tomorrow’s Data Centers with High-Amperage Connectors

As generative AI and high-performance computing grow, the total amount of power required from data centers is expected to nearly double from 17GW in 2022 to 35GW in 2030. Increasing electrical current is one way to meet this power need, but this approach requires larger high-current connectors and power cords designed to safely handle higher amperages.

Saf-D-Grid Max provides a premium solution for design engineers and information and communication technology (ICT) engineers. The Max fits within a standard IEC 60320 C19/C20 connector footprint while delivering significantly more voltage and amperage capabilities. This power density advantage saves space while providing the amperage support that growing data centers need.

Saf-D-Grid Max is a high-current connector that supports:

  • Up to 55A UL-rated maximum current – compared to standard IEC C19/C20 connectors that offer 20A.
  • Up to 600V AC/DC of disconnect voltage – compared to standard IEC C19/C20 connectors that support 250VAC and do not support DC power architectures.
  • Up to 305V and 40A of UL-rated current interrupt – compared to standard IEC C19/C20 connectors that support 250VAC and 20A.

Saf-D-Grid Max supports up to 55A of UL-rated maximum current to meet the power demands of the future.

Additional Saf-D-Grid Max Features for Advanced Security and Performance

The Saf-D-Grid Max is a versatile connector designed to work within many different parts of a data center power train, including the power distribution unit (PDU) to the switch, PDU to the maintenance bypass, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to the maintenance bypass, and more.

The Saf-D-Grid Max also includes all the popular features of the existing Saf-D-Grid C13/C14-sized connector, including:

  • AC/DC Versatility: Saf-D-Grid Max supports both AC and DC power architectures, including high-voltage architectures up to 277VAC single-phase.
  • High Thermal Rating: Saf-D-Grid Max is perfect for hot-aisle environments with a thermal rating of up to 105°C, providing extra headroom for conducting current in higher ambient temperature environments. Most standard connectors only offer a 70°C rating.
  • Integrated Latch: A mechanical tab on the connector prevents accidental disconnects by requiring a button press to disengage, avoiding power loss to critical equipment.
  • Hot-Plug Rated: Rated for current interruption for both electronic (capacitive) and electrical (resistive) loads.
  • Ground Contact: The ground pin is longer than the two live contacts to mate first and break the connection last, providing the safety of an earthing path before engagement.
  • Touch-Safe/Shock Protection: Saf-D-Grid Max minimizes the risk of accidental contact with hazardous voltage by passing the UL and IEC finger probe (plug and receptacle) and 3mm probe tests (receptacle).
  • Long, Color-Coded Housing: Connector features a long housing designed to contain arcs and enhance safety when disconnecting. The housing is also color-coded for both input and output applications to provide quick identification.

The Saf-D-Grid Max marks the first of many planned expansions to the Anderson Power Saf-D-Grid Connector Series. With this new addition, Anderson Power delivers the same Saf-D-Grid features ICT engineers trust while providing exceptional amperage capabilities for cutting-edge data center power solutions.
